BOOK CLUB
Welcome to "Booked for Murder," the book club for members of Partners in Crime!
We’re getting together to read, discuss, dissect, debate—and occasionally disagree about—crime fiction, mysteries, thrillers, and all things delightfully suspicious.
Our first meeting will be on October 28 at 6:30 pm, and our inaugural selection is Blue Ridge, a crime thriller by James Foley. You can find Blue Ridge on Amazon, Kindle, and Kindle Unlimited, or you can order a copy from your favorite bookstore. So grab your copy and start reading!
How do I join?
The book club is open to all members of Partners in Crime. To join, send an email to sandiegopartnersincrime@gmail.com letting us know you'd like to participate.
Why does the club exist?
Reading a good book is fun. Talking about it with people who love the same kinds of stories is even better. The best part of a book club is hearing what other readers thought—especially when they saw something you completely missed. We may agree, disagree, change our minds, defend our favorite characters, question the ending, or come up with theories the author never intended. That's all part of the fun!
When will we meet?
This may be our first mystery to solve.
We'll need to find a regular day and time that works reasonably well for everyone, since we all have different schedules and preferences. We'll discuss options at our first meeting on October 28 and try to reach an agreement.
How often will we meet?
We'll meet once a month, on a regular day and time to be determined.
Where will we meet?
Online! All meetings will take place via Zoom. Each month, you'll receive a Zoom meeting link, and we'll also post the link on the Partners in Crime website.
Who's the host?
Each month, one member will serve as the host. At the end of each meeting, we'll select the host for the following month. The host will:
Choose the next book.
Make sure it fits within our general genres.
Come prepared with a few questions or topics to get the conversation started. Don't worry—you don't need to create a college-level literary analysis! There are plenty of book-club discussion questions online that can provide inspiration.
How will books be selected?
Ideally, we'll read books written by Partners in Crime members. You can find our members' books on the Partners in Crime website. And here's where it gets especially fun: when we select a Partners in Crime member's book, we'll invite the author to join our meeting! That gives us a chance to ask questions, hear the story behind the story, and get a little behind-the-scenes insight into how the book came together.
*Books by other authors from the San Diego/Southern California area may also be slected, as long as they fit within our preferred genres.
What Will We Read?
Our reading list will focus on:
Crime fiction
Mysteries
Cozy mysteries
Thrillers
True crime
Related subgenres
In other words, if there's a crime to solve, a mystery to unravel, a villain to catch, or a suspicious character lurking in the shadows, there's a good chance it could make the list.
Didn't Finish the Book?
No problem. Come anyway! You don't have to finish the book—or even read it—to attend a meeting. Just be warned: once the discussion begins, spoilers are fair game. We're here to have fun, discover great books, meet fellow readers, and enjoy some lively conversation.
So grab your book, bring your theories, and let the sleuthing begin!
